Is Peyton Manning retiring???
Actor Rob Lowe has tweeted that his sources close to Peyton Manning have told him that Manning will retire from the NFL today.
This isn’t the most reliable of sources, but what the hell, this is a blog that only a few people read.
If Peyton Manning does retire, it will obviously suggest the Colts plan on taking Andrew Luck with the first overall pick in the draft. This seemed to pretty much be a forgone conclusion by most people, but the announcement of Manning’s retirement would confirm it 100% in my mind. Personally, I believe Manning has been the greatest quarterback of my generation and a class act. I’ve always been a fan and I wish the guy well in whatever he plans on doing after football. He’s also had some great skits on SNL!
We’ll see if this news pans out soon. Until then, its just a rumor.

Peyton Manning retired or not is a great quarterback, but he is not the greatest quarterback of ‘your’ generation, as he only appeared in 1 Superbowl, but was league MVP 4 times.
John Elway appeared in the most Superbowls – 5, was MVP once. Roger Staubach, Jim Kelly, Terry Bradshaw, and Joe Montana appeared in 4 Superbowls. These great QB’s are all rertired. Tom Brady has also appeared in 4 Superbowls and is still actively playing in the NFL, and has 2 NFL MVP’s.
Determine what defines the greatest QB in the past 20 years. I think there is considerable arguement for Elway and Brady, and Brady could end up being the Best of some pretty lofty NFL QB’s, as his career is still current.

I said that I believe Peyton Manning to be the greatest QB of my generation. That’s my opinion. If you’re asking me to pick who I think was the best QB out of Elway, Manning, and Brady, I’d pick Elway. It’s just that I consider him to be of a different playing era. I do believe that Manning is better than Brady. Sure Brady has won more Super Bowls, but that is not the mark of a great quarterback. If it was, nobody would remember Marino.
